Bending the stream

The same written waveform, read a second time through a periodic function. The list of amplitudes is short and almost static: three values, taken round and round. Everything that happens to it happens at the fold, where the stream is reflected back on itself every time it crosses a moving threshold. This is moss, without its grain layer.

The dials are bend and bendFreq. The threshold is a sine at bendFreq, so the fold is not a fixed distortion but a second rate running against the first. Where the two rates are close the output nearly repeats; where they are far apart the fold scatters the stream across the spectrum. mode chooses what happens at the threshold: fold reflects, wrap jumps to the other side, clip flattens.

Start with the gain low.

Reading the panels. The top panel is one short window of signal: the stream as it was written, dim, and what comes out after the fold, bright, on the same axes, with the moving threshold drawn behind both. The bottom panel is the output on its own, zoomed out to a few periods, where the extra motion the fold adds to an otherwise nearly square stream is what you are looking at.

The duration list is from, then to, then a walk between the two, repeated, exactly as in the material. walk is how far that third value may move each time. mode 0–3 is none, fold, wrap, clip.
